How Right-Angle and Virtual Y-Axis Transform CNC Milling and Turning Operations?
In recent years, on CNC turning and milling machines, the traditional C-axis machining with X and Z-axis applications has been unable to satisfy users, because the complexity, precision, and cost of products are getting higher and higher, and the application of Y-axis has become very common. Combined with the function of the power shaft, the range of workpiece processing can be wider, such as side milling, drilling, tapping, and surface processing, which not only reduces the processing time, but also greatly improves the accuracy.
Generally speaking, there are two ways to realize the Y-axis function on the CNC turning-milling machine: right-angle Y-axis and virtual Y-axis.
- Right-angle Y-axis: The Y-axis slide plate is installed on the X-axis slide plate, directly driven by a single servo motor, and the Y-axis stroke is relatively large; it is not only more convenient for the operator to edit the program, but also avoids synchronous virtual movement compared with the virtual Y-axis The error caused by the axis can provide more accurate straightness and positioning accuracy.
- Virtual Y-axis: The Y-axis is formed by the interpolation of the co-moving axis, so the stroke is short; the angle between the Y-axis and the X-axis is small, and the center of gravity of the turret can be located within the range of the saddle to ensure the rigidity of the entire machining stroke; the main body The reduced weight load reduces the chance of structural deformation.
